Limerick and its people for many years have been known for their passion for sport which has led to the Limerick being awarded the coveted title of “European City of Sport 2011” The Limerick Strand Hotel is proud of its reputation as the “very place to be” in Limerick when any large sporting event is happening in the city. Sporting highlights in 2010 varied from the Heineken Cup Quarter Finals at Thomond Park, the first ever Great Limerick Run, the JP McManus Golf Pro Am, the Australian Rules Series in the Gaelic Grounds, the opening of the new Greyhound stadium and perhaps most of all the Limerick was the proud host of the 2010 Special Olympic Games which captivated the minds and hearts of every person in Limerick and throughout Ireland. Event day atmosphere at the Limerick Strand is known city wide, the Terrace Bar has become a firm favorite amongst the “Red Army’s” fans on match day. The Limerick Strand Hotel has proudly hosted many of the visiting Teams to Limerick from the mighty All Blacks to the Socceroos.The hotels sporting “wall of fame” has grown immensely in 2010 and we look forward to adding to the vast collection of visiting team jerseys in 2011.
