The University of Derby Theatre Company will present Angela's Ashes: A Musical in Limerick in July 2013. Based on the book by Frank McCourt, Music and Lyrics by Adam Howell,
Adaptation by Paul Hurt, by kind permission of Ellen McCourt, Green Peril.
First premiered in Derby, England in October 2012, the musical has extremely well received by audiences during its first run (including the members of the McCourt family).
Life isn't easy growing up in the lanes of 1930's Limerick, especially for a young Irish Catholic boy, but McCourt's inspiring story of survival is a testament to the strength and tenacity of the human spirit.
A world-renowned best seller that became a major motion picture, Angela’s Ashes has now been adapted into a stage musical that conveys the story’s inherent warmth and humour through a score of original songs.
The originators are keen to bring the musical to its spiritual home and use the performances as a launch pad for bringing the musical to a wider audience. Limerick is so much part of this story, and it is our hope that it will bring a lot of audiences to the city for the performances.
